Greek mythology tells us the story of the pomegranate trees, which were known since ancient times, and mentioned in Homer’s Odyssey. The most renowned myth associated with the pomegranate fruit is the one of the abduction of Persephone by Hades. According to the myth, Hades offered the fruit to Persefone in order to seal their eternal bond. It was decided that she would spend six months with Hades and then return to visit her mother on earth for the rest of the year. The myth explained the seasons of the year.
